Hey guys! First I was growing my plants under 440 watts of VHO. I had to move many plants closer to the lights (within inches) by putting them on tall pots and tupperwate. Ugly....

Then I tried feebily to grow under 250 watts of HPS, the light was ugly as hell and made my plants flower well, but the growth was hideous and etoliated. That lasted about a month and I switched back to VHO.

I bought a 250 watt Ushio Metal Halide conversion bulb.. WOWIE WIE WOW! I've never been happier over spending 60 bucks!

These pics are half as bright as in real life. I couldn't figure out how to make the camera stop dimming things down. you get the idea. Just picture them twice as bright. It lights up my whole room!

    Before.......

    AFTER!

Seriously it hurts your eyes to go into my room I could get a suntan!

I'd say it's worth double, now that I can see the green on my plants

    $10 was shipping.

Now that I've got the sun, maybe I could make a natural terrarium with sarracenia in it and move 'em out in the winter. Something to think about....

OH! Now I can get some vft's reverse their seasons and have them in the winter! haha!

And D. filiformis! OMG! I'm tickled pink!

Way to go Clint. Different lights give different results that is for sure. Some folks use one HPS and one metal halide for the best of both worlds since they give off different spectrum wave lengths.

I'm so happy dude! Now that i've got a renewed interest i'm gonna clean it up and buy more plants!

sorry about the crap on the wall.... That was when I put sticky stuff on a heater readout/dial thingie and stuck it on the wall. Who know the sticky foam crap would stick? Lol, redundant...

It's still 5200K. That's still got quite a bit of red in it, right? Here is a place online I found the specs at.

    Ushio specs

    Does that spectrum look good?

    20,000 initial lumens!!!!!!!

wow...that looks amazing. But check this one out...the lamp which I am using has AMAZING SPECS. REALLY AMAZING. 6500 K, 91 CRI. Really good white light. looks kinda like that.

If u are good with electronics...I would suggest making a ballast that can take 2 or more of these bulbs. if anyone knows i would love to know how to make my own 4 bulb lamp.

    bulb itself:

pretty cheap. I would love to get 4 and setthem up in a custom setup....but i have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how.

Do you mean a fixture? Making a ballast is an extremely dangerous endeavor that really shouldn't be undertaken by anyone but a well-trained professional. It would be much safer just to buy multiple fixtures, or look for a fixture that fits multiple bulbs. And wouldn't T5s be cheaper in the long run?
