Ok JB to answer some of your Qs, one most the bigger plants that have to go thru dormacy will be put in the barn, 2 the smaller ones will of course go to the fridge, the ones not going thru dormancy will be brought into the house like normal. Now as far as the plastic goes trust me i have used this plastic since i was younger for many things and yes i agree with a load of snow sitting on it its not gona be able to handle it, one with the pitch and 2 with us using a tarp over the green house and 3 with me cleaning the snow off it i wont have a prob with snow load, Im not gona worry bout using a heater in there for the winter because the plants are not gona be in there. Remember this is just a make shift GH for now next yr hubby is gona build me a big one with the right materials to with stand the elaments and make it thru winter and will will be able to heat that one, there are many green houses/nurseries up around us, they use some sort of heavy heavy duty milk white plastic or whatever ya call it hubby and i will be finding out what that is or we can go with a diffrent sort of GH and build it with these see thru panels, i dont know what its called but hubby does. Right now this is just a quick toss up GH for me to use till winter. We are gona paint the frame work outside and still have alot to do yet, We have lived and delt with the super harsh winters up here for more than 25 yrs and we know what we can use and what we cant use. Im glad you brought up all these points of view and thanks for the awsome input i apreciate it JB, you to droseraguy.. You know im open to any and all input, but we didnt have much to use and i wanted something built to get me thru the rest of the season even though our season is getting shorter quickly. JB you and i and droseraguy will get together on something for next spring and maybe we can all chit chat about building the right GH. Sound good guys?? Total investment in this so far guys about $10.00..

Heres what we got done today we finished plasticing the 3 sides and i still gota trim the plastic from the inside window frame so that it dont look crappy, yes its not the best job but when your in a hurry it happens that way.. Anyways we still gota finish the front get the door on and get the tables built and get the GH put where i want it to go. Still gota get the paint tomarrow and the rocks plus the ceder. I will get more pics tomarrow and then once everything is in place and finished i will take more pics..
And droseraguy, hubby would definately go for the drag car befour investing more into my projects.. LOL!! Unless i get out the whips and chains then its another story all together...
anyways heres whats been done so far, looks like crap now but wait till we are completed..

Tracey, your GH does look awesome! I was just trying to keep you from making some of the same mistakes I did when building a GH from scratch. I do like how you did it! Careful you do not fry your plants with just that one small vent window though. I have a squirrel cage fan to pull the heat out. You know the furnace fans. Move a lot of air. It could not keep up and temps were getting up to 105 in the GH. So I removed two walls to keep the temps from getting higher than ambient.

When I get to MN we have plans to put on a glass sun room so I can grow some plants out there. Along with my basement grow room I will be building. I can't wait to get started with that!

And Sure i would love to chat with you and share some of the things that I have done that I like or don't like. Might save you a little money and time. My yahoo name is JB_Orchidguy. You can also PM me telling me your ready to talk about it. Because obviously there are a lot of different glazings with different R factors and heating methods too.

BTW If you double the plastic with an air gap in between then you will have a little better insulation than just one layer. You would be surprised how much better it keeps in heat.

With that hole in the top, wouldn't birds and squirrels get in?

Thanks JB, you should know by now i love and apreciate any and all advice that you can give me. the door to the green house durring the day will be open as well if i need it and i can install a small fan. The plastic is doubled, our temps durring the day dont get as high as yours, you gota remember this is northern michigan we be real lucky to have more than 2 days of 90% temps. It does however get real humid and muggy at times, i will put some sort of wire mesh over the air vent window to stop birds from getting in but as far as squirrels go, well lets just say there not welcome here.. LOL!! The flying squirrels that come out at night now they are welcome here.. My main concern is stinkin chipmunks i think we are gona go ahead and wire mesh or something around the bottom a certain ways up from the bottom, they can be a real pain in the **** at times.

HPLH, everything that we possibly can squeez into it will go out there for now. I will get picks when its completely done and then you can all let me know what ya think, todays agenda get the door on and the front completed, tables built and get our suplies from home depot to finish it off, then i will give a total of whats been invested into it, hubby says what about my time a labor, GEESH YA THINK THE MAN NEEDS TO BE PAID FOR HIS TIME!!! Im gona remember that when he says "Honey i need this certain part for the car" im gona say geez honey what about my time and labor... Im the one that keeps that baby in tip top shape nice and shiney and well WAXED!!

LMAO about time and labor. Your giving him good some loven right? LOL Besides relationships are supposed to be give and take. Shouldn't be out of balance. Then again I do believe he was just giving you a hard time and would do anything for his Dragway Mama!
