I just read this whole thread, beautiful pictures and stunning plants. I was wondering what medium you used for you cephs, since all I can see is sand at the top.

Thanks! It's definitely been a work in progress over the past years.
I just use sandy peat, with course silica. I've tried a whole combination of things, but this seems to work best for long intervals.

Whoa, you're back! Congrats on the baby!

Thanks Swaggy! I'm back from a year long ban.

  • #1,272
Seems like it was more than a year! Hopefully this time you are here to stay :-D

  • #1,273
I was absent from the forums for months when I got banned, so who knows. But, it is what it is. Life has been good to me since I was last here. Amazing how life can go from "I hate my life", to "We're so blessed" in just one year's time. But hey, I'm not complaining! And I'm never looking back..

'Looks like your plant collection is prospering as well. Congrats on the new son!

Thanks man! My Nepenthes collection is finally complete (minus the aristo I can't find), and a few hybrids.
Good to see ya bud.

Why were you banned?

Couldn't tell ya, I hadn't been on for nearly 3 months when I received the ban email. I can assume what it was for though. However, that means I got banned for a year over nothing forum related. But it is what it is, and it can stay in the past where it belongs.
And to answer your next question of what I assume the reason was.., my best friend was murdered in his home along side his wife and their two dogs, I resorted to an old drug addiction to cope with my downward spiral of depression, and as a result, I failed to ship hundreds of dollars worth of plants in the meantime. But ya know, I'll never forget that last night I laid the pipe down forever, because it was the same night I found out my wife was pregnant with our baby boy. That was 9mo and 8 days ago.. and counting.
Since then, I've paid off all of the PayPal claims filed, and have done my best to hunt down and repay those who were unable to file. I've faced numerous consequences, and lost a bunch of friends. I did however, find out who I hurt beyond repair, who my real friends were, and who's a judgmental donkey sitting on a high horse. TONs of those last people around here! Never wronged them, but the first to past judgment. But hey, all bad things happen for good reasons I guess. Because I've never been happier with my life, my friends, or my plants. Everything is great. I know life will always have it's curve balls, but I also know (now), there's better ways to deal with the depression that comes with it. New plants seem to help. :-D
I hope that answers your question(s). I'm man enough to own up to my actions. Good and bad..Like I said, it is what it is. And let the Block party commence!

Hey man, welcome back and I'm glad to hear everything is going so well! The plants look great and a huge congrats on the new baby! =) Sorry to hear you fell into such bad times but I'm so happy to hear you've sorted it all out and come out the other side even better than before.
If you really are confused about the ban, I'm sure you have a PM that explains it, there is also some reference to it in the new infraction system post. http://www.terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139981 I'm glad to say that new system seems to be working really well and keeping the forums on track with our views of what it should be.
Talk soon,
Andrew

...I hope that answers your question(s).

Well said!

I wanted to mention that I am now growing D. "Andromeda" as well and I am impressed with your plant. The CP Photofinder shows that it is, as yet, an unregistered hybrid possibly because there is no one clone from this cross (Drosera schizandra x prolifera) that has been given the name. But it is an attractive alternative to the very demanding pure D. schizandra. Do those tendrils have little plantlets on them like D. prolifera produces?
