add very high humidity and low temperatures in your tank. Also drown them with a spray gun. Mites reproduce in hot and dry places
A lady went into a grocery store and looked into the turket section. She needed a bigger one for her family, so she asks the stock boy: \"Do these turkeys get any bigger?\"

The stock boy replied: \"No ma'am, they're dead\"

The best insectide I have found for Cps and regular plants is the systemic variety. I use Orthene AKA ISOTOX. It's very effective as the plant actually absorbs it and the pests are actually "eating to their death". It's very stinky and I reccomend you wear gloves when applying it. It can be easily absorbed through the plant tissues as well as the our skin!

I think the key active ingredient is the Acephate stuff. I read about in CP's of CA and NA by Don Schell.

Blast them with miticide (use a hose)
You say the are crawling around IN THE SOIL?
I think you should repot your plants and WASH them in miticide, I don't think this will have any harmful effects (on the plants)
Or maybe you should try watering/spraying your plants with miticide, or maybe even showring them
