    at the office I just put them into the refrigerator for a few mins to slow them down. Helps significantly....

    CO2 is often used to stun small critters for macro photography.
    I was thinking of that...for aquatic species I have used just a drop of ethyl alcohol.

    With this technique I'll need them to stay stick-still for a couple of minutes...most people just photograph dead stuff, but I really want to shoot live critters.
