hi everybody

hello i am new to these forums i just thought id introduce my self... i am thinking of maki ng a classic terarium and might or might be here for a while i already have The savage Garden book and any advice for a newbie is welcomed

Now why would you even bother with a terrariom when you live in Texas?? You can grow everything outside spring/summer/fall/ winter. And welcome to the forums!!!!

huh well mainly just for decoration in my room i think they look mighty fine plus i dont go outside my house all that often unless its chores, freinds or something like that and another thing i forgot to mention i hav e VERY bad typing skills so if theres and extra letter here or there im so sorry

We don't care about your spelling. That's not a problem. However, if you grow indoors, you will need growlights. These plants need all the sunlight they can get. And about Pete D'Amatos book, VFT's will live much longer than he states they do, and all the info is only the basic how to's. Rely on the advice of people in this Forum before any book. You will get real time advice!!

yes i know that very well ive been reading on here for bout a week bfore joining much nicer boards than the ones im used to
(video games stuff like that) aloooot of flaming goes on there

Not much flaming here bro.

Welcome fellow Texan!! I'm in Dallas, if you ever want to grow your stuff outside go for it. CP's do great here. I also grow stuff ( Mostly Nep's ) indoors. I and a LOT of others here can help you with anything. Don't be afraid to ask.

thanks man ill keep that in mind

Hi and welcome to TerraForums!

I, too, wanted to wanted to have an indoor terranium when I saw THIS:

And that immediately sparked my Venus Fly Trap buying spree.

However---- the plant will nearly suffocate unless you are willing to put up with a controlled method of lighting EVERY SINGLE DAY (around 12 hours of intense, flourescent lighting). You can put it outside and it will flourish.

Ultimately I decided to keep my VFTs outside and they are flourishing

PS, by the way, here's my propaganda: VFTs are the best CP's in the world, so start your collection with that!!! ;)
