Thought I would post a couple (bad) pictures of my bonsai.

I like it, and I see I'm not the only one who likes booze.

It's true, I can sometimes live in a state minor of disrepair. I thought about cleaning for the photo, but effort far outweighed the reward.

Nice tree, is it a Chinese elm?

Either that or a Fukien Tea.

Did you grow/train that one yourself or was it a pre-formed?

Very nice,

It's a Chinese Elm. It's ten years old. I didn't train it. It came pre-formed. Fortunately, there is a good bonsai store here. At least this place has that going for it.

Wow. Thats pretty interesting. I heard some about bonsai the other day and it sounds pretty cool. Do you basically just put a seed/small tree in a pot and it stays small do to it's contatiner being small? Or do you just keep on cutting it so it wont outgrow the pot and get big and tall?

I'm no expert but it also involves trimming the roots and the branches so that the small roots can only allow enough growth for the limbs to stay small.

xvart.

Most people start with medium sized plants and then grow them like they normally would but then trim and wire the plants into the forms that they want. After the trees are formed on top then they are constantly pruned but each time they are repotted (note it is still in standard nursery pots) the rootball is pruned back ever so slightly reducing it up to one-third of its original size. A good indepth google search will give you a little more detail thought :D
