Those Things Are So Cool Looking / Wish I Could Grow Them...

I've been looking up growing mushrooms for a while now. You probably don't consider it (growing them inside) seriously when you have them outside and know where to get them.

The idea of growing them inside is very appealing to me. But growing shiitakes on logs would be cool too.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Jeff Shultz has been finding quite a few morels in Austin, Texas this year.. Along with another guy named Marcus from Killeen, Texas. Instead of wasting your time trying to cultivate morels (you'll be extremely disappointed).. you should get your butt into the woods!! Hate to say it though, but your morel season is long gone.

I used to grow mushrooms in those "kits" you could buy online, they do not get nearly as big man. Shiitake, Lionhead, and Oyster mushrooms do fruit immensely in those kits. I grew oysters in pure coffee grinds a few years back.

Morels are seriously the filet steak of the mushroom world. They make the best sauces, toppings, and I'm sure you could even just microwave them and they'd be delicious. Well ok. Not too sure about that.

Whats the easiest dish you prepare with them?

Pan fried in butter and my "secret seasonings".. Then I let the morels and butter cool which makes a thick butter sauce. Then I pour the morels and sauce over my steak.

WOW!! THOSE ARE THE BIGGEST BLACK MORELS I'VE EVER SEEN!!

Soak them in some slightly salty water.. then pan fry them in LOTS of butter until the white insides are a golden brown. Then pour them out of the pan with the excess butter over a steak. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! Nice find bud..

And remember: ALWAYS LEAVE THE STUMPS BEHIND. CUT THEM OFF AT THE STEM OR PINCH THEM OFF! NEVER PULL THEM OUT OF THE GROUND!!
