I was watching the 5 o'clock news and they were interviewing this guy who liked to go to the MN Boundary Waters Canoe Area he said: "My wife and I go up every year, we always bring home plants to remember our trip by." Then the camera pans across a whole ROW of MN Lady Slipper orchids (Cyp. reginae) the CITES protected MN state flower which he had removed from a protected state park. If caught, he was looking at tens of thousands of dollars in fines and here he was happily showing them off on the news.
When they re-ran the same segment an hour later on the 6 o'clock news they had cut out that plant collecting statement and the shot of the orchids. Someone must've called the news station. I was tempted to after the first airing.
