    Oncidium "Sharry Baby" 'Ruby Doll'

I hope I got the quotes in the right spot....

I was out taking pictures of some of my babies, and I though I'd share a favorite hardware store find. The scent is perfectly heavenly, with a hint of raspberry!

Beautiful. The only orchids that I see that look like are maroon/mahogany with yellow speckling.

I saw this at the hardware store, and just HAD to have it. I've never seen a Sharry Baby like it, and never smelled one like it, either.

    Lil Stinkpot,
The Onc. "sharry baby" is a great hybrid. It is supposed to smell like "chocolate". I was told it isn't a very fussy orchid (although Tony P and others are probably a lot more knowledgeable than I am). I see your beginning to catch orchid fever if you aren't already there yet. I know CP's are why we're all here, but do you grow them side by side with orchids? I own a few Paph. species myself. I do have Nepenthes and Drosera mixed in with the orchids I have, and all seem perfectly happy. Keeps down the fungus gnats and flies to a minimum...

Oh, I've been bit by the orchid bug for a few years, now. I can't help myself, at times!

When I get home, I'll put up my orchid growlist.

    Those Cyprediums yours??

Glad to know I'm not the only CP grower with orchid fever...The Cypripediums are not mine, although I do own quite a few. The lady slippers in my picture are the large yellow lady slipper (cyp. pubescens) and they are 30 + years old, property of Garden in the Woods (specializes in Native Plants). Cyp. kentuckiense is my favorite which I plan on buying more of in the spring. Id like to add more Cyp. reginae as well, however I do know I am one of the few who gets a skin reaction when coming in contact with Cyp. reginae leaves. Addictive native orchids, however relatively easy to grow if they are in the right soil/shade. I do have calopogon tuberosa and spiranthes growing with my sarracenia too. Do you own any native orchids?

    Not yet.

There is one growing on the property next door at work that I want to dig. I gotta ask permission, first. It's nothing spectacular, though, just a 10" stem with a few tiny greenish flowers.

I have always had interest in Cyprediums, though why I haven't bought an yet I don't know. I tried once, out of a catalog, but by the time the plants proved to be day lilies instead, it was past the time limit to return them.
