Orchis mascula, the Early Purple Orchid

Orchis mascula in habitat 12th May 2016. A hardly terrestrial, not one of those namby pamby big girl's blouse epiphytic tropicals

    Enjoy

So many people think that orchids only live in tropical regions. It's nice to see a change of pace.
The profile pic that you see above is my actual photo. I am a hyper-intelligent snake that has learned to use the internet and I will eventually rule you all.

    Just kidding..... Or am I?

Lovely pictures, Fred. Which would you say best shows the orchids' color? (The first seems much darker/richer ...at least on my iPad.)

They all do. That's the colour on each of them. There's quite a variation on the site. The leaves vary too with amounts spotting / no spotting.

I'll be checking another possible site this morning. It's a different section that I've never checked this early in the year so there may be some there. Finger's crossed

Ah! I see. I thought some shots might have been of the same plant but different angles or time of day.
