I have a second flower from my unknown rubra hybrid. I might be able to make a cross, though the flava's flower no longer looks healthy. (cold and rain might have hurt it)

Did you decide to forgo the large bog containers in favor of the small pots?

Did you decide to forgo the large bog containers in favor of the small pots?

Ya I really had to because of numerous factors. It's a pain to dig them up each year and have to dig down shoulder deep in peat and still rip a large amount of roots off. Also you can never foresee which Sarrs will explode growth wise and which will straggle so some are bound to be in the shadow of the others. This way I can move them around and transplant much more easily. I also am able to get rid of the excess water and clean the containers more easily thus avoiding that rotten egg smell from sulfur bacteria due to the lack of oxygen. Overall I think it will work out better this way but I think once I get too many divisions of some I will place them in the large containers and let them be for a few years weather permitting. Only down side to this method I've come across is the need to water more often and the nuisance of mosquitoes to come. I think I'll have to get a couple BT dunkers in there to keep them in check.
