New Vivarium Project.

Started putting together another vivarium about a week ago and here it is so far. I will be adding a Ceph. division to the mount of peat/sand/perlite in the next week or two. Once I get the time.

The spoon is holding that fern in place until it roots.

wow!! That fern looks cute. How can one get all those plants again? :p BTW....nice start. ;) I am sure it will look fantastic with a cascading ceph on the wall. ;)

I got most of the ferns and general mini plants from trades.

I finally had some time today and planted 3 tiny Ceph 'Vigorous' divisions onto the slope there. Hopefully they will root. Also added an Anubus nana 'Petite'.

Are those Cephs?

Coming together nicely. Those baby cephalotus are nicely placed.

How deep are the cavities for their roots?

Very nice vivarium! Glad to see the Cephs have taken kindly too it and are doing well.

Those are actually holes in the driftwood, so they can root into the medium behind them.

No much is happening yet, but I had the camera stuff out so.

All three Ceph's have put on a little weight so they are settling in nicely.

I added a small clipping of Microgramma heterophylla and about 5 little cutting of Utricularia pubescens last weekend. Both seem to have taken.

The three Ceph's.

From looking at these pics, this needs an update...

From today 30 Jul 11 - Must remember to pluck the moss :censor:.

One of the Ceph's is starting to color up nicely, that redish one is just at 1". Its getting harder to tell there are 3 of them in there.

The Utricularia pubescens started flowering a while back and they have been in constant bloom since. Its starting to fill in nicely, and you can see my favorite little fern is starting to grow more.

The Drosera capillaris have been flowering for a few months now. You can tell where the light bulb is by looking at the redness of the Drosera, the darker one is right under it with the greener ones off to the sides.

Cool terrarium - thanks for the update - the plants look very happy. The U. pubescens is an interesting addition.

Thought I'd get a few pics of the Utric, they are getting larger "disks" than I've had in the past. The larger ones are just a hair over 1/4".

That looks fantastic! What kind of lighting are you using?

That's a very cool viviarium. Good job!

Looking real good there!
Congrats!

IME, having a set-up like this is nice for a while, but they tend to grow so well sometimes, that they quickly overgrow into a real mess that needs repeated tending. Not that I wasn't able to deal with it, but after a while it got to be a real hassle.
It does give a lot more satisfaction than a bunch of half-thriving plants stuffed on a metal rack, as it is like creating an amazing piece of nature in a crystal box! I hope it does well for you.

I have since gone the route of having a "crystal box of nature", with individual pots of plants. Having live Sphagnum growing over things gives it a "natural landscape" look, but the pots make controlling growth, replacing plants & changing the set-up, a whole lot easier & more in line with the ease I need & time I have to care for them all.

Again, your set-up looks terrific! I hope you have better long-term luck with it & that it gives years of enjoyment. Having something like this is certainly "Living-room" worthy!
(While my one nice "terrarium" does reside in our den, my grow-racks are tucked away in a spare bedroom while most of the other things are outdoors or in the greenhouse.)
