    **UPDATE**UPDATE**

Here is the breakdown of the timeline:

    Strat Dates: 1/29 - 2/26
    Seeds Sown: 2/26
    First Germination: 3/11
Seedling Age Since Germination: 168 Days -- or -- 24 Weeks

    What we see today:

    Untitled

    Untitled

    Untitled

Lesson learned: Don't buy cheap sphagnum moss. It comes with weeds as you can see from all the photos above. Next time it will be strickly peat for germination, for sure. It's almost impossible to get out without disturbing little Sarrs.

Unsuspected outcome: These guys show their true colors early in life. I didn't know seedlings had the pototential to reveal their mature coloturation this early in the game. I see a nice mixture of reds/greens/oranges. Cool!

    Enjoy the update!

Beautiful seedlings, they look so nice and healthy! And I agree, the differences among the coloration of your plants should make for a very diverse collection in a couple of years.

    Darn weeds!

Some plants that can have/ do have orange coloration ... S. x "Orange Fire', S. x 'Orange Sunset', some other moorei (flava x leuco) clones, some mitchelliana (leuco x purp) clones, some catesbaei clones, and some flavas can appear orange-y as well in enough sunlight (like flava 'copper vase'). Although there aen't many sarrs that really do appear entirely bright orange like the fruit.

The color they are now may not be the color at adulthood. I have some "orange" colored sarr seedlings germinated at the beginning of this year that are purps and some that are hybrids that will change color as they age, won't show their true adult colors until at least a couple years of age.

Not yet. I've thought about it, but don't want to burn the little guys.

Got all these seedlings off ebay. Here is the cross that hopefully will produce some nice oragne colors!

    SXM01 S.x Moorei -- `Leah Wilkersoní x SFA03 S. flava var. atropurpurea -- all red
