Sarracenia from Seed!!

  • #41
Thanks! Sadly, I've got no clue, I bought a bunch of mixed hybrid seeds from someone else a little bit ago, and that seedling is from one of those seeds. I didn't do that one myself. Here's a closer picture of the big pitcher though, if that helps.

They have grown so much!

Here are a few more I’m working on.

The first three were recently brought outside and still getting acclimated to the blazing SoCal sun and low humidity.

(‘Golden Red Jubilee’ x Leucophylla) x a very red Catesbaei

(Purp venosa burkii x rubra wherryi giant) x ‘Leah Wilkerson’

Unknown hybrid from Joel (Joossa) but really showing promise.

:hail: ALL HAIL THE SARR KING!

So.. I did what you told me with the ungerminated seeds. You're magical, I swear.
S. "Northern Light" x S. 'Adrian Slack' and S. oreophylla x S. 'Leah Wilkerson' both have started germinating again! :awesome:

You're too kind Mass but trust me.....I'm no King. Glad they're sprouting for you now. Post some pics here when you get a chance so we can see them.

Whatz the "stalled sarracenia seed sprout trick" while we are still fresh on the subject? :)

Gosh, you have some very promising seedlings there Fred! You must be very excited :) I would also like to hear about this Sarracenia germination trick ( I bet it has something to do with a second stratification!), but as you can see, I'm not having a problem in this regard:

I will be able to plant an acre of Sarracenia in a few years! Yikes.

Very nice sarracenia Fred!

Agreed! That one that is very white is almost blinding! The cuprea x ornata are very nice too!

Those are nice Paul and yes, you are right about a second and sometimes third stratification. It's not really a trick...some just need that extra warm/cold kick in the
butt once or twice to get them to germinate. But in Mass' case, he had already stratified for like 8-9 weeks so I just told him to cover them and raise the heat to around 85 degrees. Again not really a trick.
