Snapped some pics today of my sarracenia beginning to bloom. Love this time of year.

that's quite a few flowers. How much seed do you get each year?.

And half as many more not shown. I also cut quite a few (freshly divided and new acquisitions).

Most are left alone and of those not that many produce seed, depends on the bumble bee population year to year. I cross-pollinate by hand the flowers of a big pot of S. jonesii I grow for the ICPS seed bank and collected thousands of seeds for them last year. Other than that I only do a few “selfings” and crosses of my own, but I don’t document count on those so not sure how many in a given year. Each seed pod can contain roughly 100 to 600 seeds depending on species, environmental factors, and method of pollination (nature versus hand, selfed versus crossed), so it varies widely from year to year.

Those are some beautiful Sarracenia flowers.

S. [(flava x alata) x Redman] x (purp x Yellow Cat) - now that's a complex cross!

Everything looks so nice and spring-like! Such promise for the season to come.

Your flowers are so pretty!! Sarracenia flowers are so unique!
