Does anyone know if S.purpurea ssp. venosa var. montana is a clumping plant? Mine has already started two new ones from the main crown. Is this a typical trait, or am I doing something special?

Thanks,
Cole

My purpurea ssp. venosa and venosa var. burkei have both clumped, so I cannot see why the montana variety would not clump.

I was curious because I have read that s.purpurea and s. pisstacina are slow, if ever, to clump.

one montana plant in my collection has 4 crowns so it should increase
