GUESS WHAT!!!...

FlytrapGurl

apple rings.. what more can i say?
I'm going to get a S. purpurea soon!!! I'm soo happy

I don't mean to be offensive but we can't really discuss (discussion forum y'know) you getting a S. Purpurea. BTW you should set it outside. Mine eat ants by the handful.

Gafoto,

It might not be discussion but neither are half the posts here. Don't worry about it:)

My Purps. don't catch that much. Where are you getting yours from?

Personally I think it's more important as to where the ravenous little guys are placed. Mine is right next to a huge anthill. It just opened it's second pitcher of the season (It grows in an outdoor bog garden year round.) and I counted 13 ants drowning their sorrows in a pitcher plant (I'm sure other ppl have counted the victims for posterity :cheesy: ).

Mine has like three growth points, but all practically coming off eachother... too late to seperate... don't forget to fill new pitchers half full with water!

I would recommend that you just order one from here instead. That way you'll know it is a good well established plant. And the people here are a heck of a lot friendlier than at Lowe's (in my experience)

Hey, don't diss Lowes! I'm not angry or anything, but they have good plants, and the people are usually friendly( just not very knowlegable). FlytrapGurl, if you do order from Lowse, also ask for a Nepenthes.

Forget Lowes and ordering right now and turn your attention to my S.Purpurea subsp. Purpurea. How do ya'll like it.

And i have notified my other "peeps" that the moss IS STILL FOR THEM but it will be a while longer. So just relax and keep your shirt on. * For all of our sakes!Nep.G. whispers to Gafoto,FTG,Pyro, nathaniel and Parasuco.* *All laugh under closed mouths*

I'm not really dissing Lowe's so much as I am speaking from experience. Lowe's does not know about CPs, the proof is in the fact that 90% of their plants are on the way out. Everytime I go to Lowe's now I have to bring my fiance with me so that she will stop my 'rescue efforts' because the odds are that the plant will croak because it has been so mitreated.

Also, as for talking about ordering from Lowe's, that falls into the area of 'Don't promote a site that is selling exactly what PFT sells.' It is kind of rude to Phil and Jeff to push business to someone else when they are kind enough to support this site and offer plants that are cheaper, stronger and healthier than any plant you will get at Lowe's.

C'mon Pyro we aren't even encouraging ppl to purchase from them (at least some of us) so I think talking about Lowes Sarracenia is acceptable. If we aren't even allowed to talk about other distributors of carnivorous plants that kinda limits our discussions alot.

Too bad Lowes doesn't have a chance beating PFT for service. I was buying a rather dry Phalenopsis orchid from lowes and I asked an employee who was watering to put a little water on the plant. She told me that "you can't get water on leaves of Phals". Ugh...

Maybe I am wrong but that sounds a little like encouragment (to me)

And I never said that you can't talk about other distributors, you don't see me saying anything in the Nep forum about the post talking about Tony and the Neps he sells. I am just pointing out how Phil and Jeff have asked that you/we refer people to a place that sells the exact same plants that PFT sells. PFT sells purps, good big healthy ones, so if you are going to make an order for a purp why not do it here?

Some comments were made for PM. I think we should all think about what we're preparing to post and decide if it's appropriate for the entire discussion forum. There's an old saying, "look before you leap". What's that got to do with anything? I don't know... I just like old sayings.

Yes, that is encouraging someone to buy a nep from lowes but I personally think that lowes can't even compete in the same market as PFT.  PFT.com caters (I think) mostly to the CP enthusiast and their promotion of this discussion board is living proof.

I personally think the previous discussion has not gone too far.  By simply discussing the merits of a store like Lowes I don't believe we're betraying PFT.  I think it is more important to have an open and free discussion board than to be slaved to talking only about PFT.

I certainly understand prohibiting people posting advertising here and I agree with that rule but I'm fairly sure none of the people here are salesmen (or saleswomen) for Lowes.  I would love to hear more about what ppl think of this conversation.  There's my two cents.  Or dollar.

I personally see no harm in discussing Lowe's as a source for CP's. I think the vast majority of people that buy [CP's] from Lowe's are doing it with a spur of the moment/curiosity motive. I think anybody that actually grows/collects CP's knows where to get high quality plants, and that Lowe's is probably not one of those places. It may actually be beneficial for PFT and other CP specialist nurseries for Lowe's to sell their CP's. As I said, I think most CP purchases there are made by people who have never been exposed to CP's before. If they do buy one from Lowe's, and actually have success growing it, they will probably want to research them more and expand their collection. These people (hopefully) will ultimately encounter this website and realize that this is an excellent source of additional, higher-quality CP's than Lowe's can provide.

Just my opinion....
