s. psittancia

I am looking at dividing some of my s. psittancia and am wondering if it is safe to divided them like other sars, by just cutting the rhizome? The plants are large, my biggest being about 8" across, ths smallest about 4". Any help would be great...

Yes, its safe. I have not heard anyone say its risky to do a rhizome cutting on this species.  Last month, I hacked my psittacina up into 10+ pieces because they were so many growing points I couldn't really tell them all apart.  I'm not saying that is recommended, but needless to say the cuttings are growing.  Take a look: http://geocities.com/southsoundcarnivores/psittacina.html
