I don't know if anybody has seen this before, but one of my S. purpurea I have had for over four years that I purchased from Calfornia Carnivores is scented. It produces large, red flowers and has a mild, cherry scent. When the petals are dried and crushed, they give off a wonderful sweet smell.

Has anybody else out there got scented purpurea venosa? It doesn't look like any rubra genes were thrown in. The flowers are also huge.

Didn't you mean, ".......has smelled this before?" Sounds a lot nicer than S. flava. I really yelled at Chinacat Sunflower for no reason, and learned that the flowers of this species were best appreciated outdoors. Way outdoors.

Our local S. purpurea purpurea are scentless I think. I'll have a good sniff this season though based on your noseworthy news.

Our local purps smell like a rose up here William. All of them in the bog outdoors too are wonderful smelling. spp. venosa is about the same but less sweeter than they are. Local smell is almost as pungent as S. rubra!

HUH? Whoda thunk it. I hope the Sloperville Bog plants are still there so I can have a sniff.

I wonder why S. fava went and got all....well, you know.
