Maybe this is why U. gibba is so successful?

This is incorrect. U. gibba has a genome sequence of roughly 80 Mbp whereas Genlisea margaretae's sequence is 63.4 Mbp, another plant G. aurea beats U. gibba with 63.6 Mbp.

I saw this article...pretty cool stuff, though I wonder why the plant does this. It doesn't really make sense to me that the plant could be cleaning out its DNA only because of natural selection.
 
i find this stuff so far from interesting but thats just me lol
 
Yet another reason to find the Utricularia genus so interesting.
