Nice plants.  Why are the S. Purpurea all covered in dirt?
 
The S. purpurea ssp. venosa. var montana most likely has dirt over it from all the times I have dug it up for cuttings and then repotted it.

I'm not sure.  When I originally purchased the plant, it was labeled as S. purpurea "Carolina Mountain".

That amounts to the same thing! NC stands for North Carolina and montana means in this case the montane variety.
