I know they're not the best pics but it's hard to take pics under a microscope... http://groups.msn.com/safesaf....oID=347
picture of a terrestrial bladderwort bladder (I'm not sure which one... since the it came up by itself.. sort of... lol... might be U. livida though)
another pic http://groups.msn.com/safesaf....oID=348

now my question about them... how the heck do they trap anything? they're full of those hair like things. do the protists and lil tiny animals go in through the hairs or how?
what's that pink thing?
now another species (I think it's U. inflata)... the trigger hairs-

what are those little sphere things? they're all over the outside of the bladder and on the hairs. any ideas?

cross section of a bladder- yes, I did slice it myself I took the biggest bladder I could find, took a razor from a pencil sharpener (it's great for microscope stuff!) and sliced it.
now... if look REALLY closely and with imagination (LOL... stupid camera that doesn't show them) you can make out hair like things on the inside of the bladder. See that bump? it's that darker portion.
now... why do bladderworts have this? are they the glands? do they absorb the nutrients? what's the deal?
