carnivorous plants of the world -- unite!
The complex wherein I live has some manmade ponds. Saw this attractive specimen down by the water's edge. Quite a sizeable one -- from my vantage point, its shell appeared to be at least 12in from front edge to back. Hope no one runs him/her over or does anything else stupid. Believe this would be a red-eared slider, yes?





 
Yes, she's an adult female Red Earded Slider. Non native to Michigan. This species has been introduced into many areas (including here) where it's out competing native turtles. Japan has seen some terrible declines in their native Wood Turtles due to this species.
 
Certainly looks like one to me.
 
Yep, definitely a red & posing for ya as well. I catch these guys fishing so often that I no longer use barbs on my hooks so as to not harm them.
