Cool idea!
Dear All,
I have made an editable map for members of our community. Follow the link and it will take you to the map. Add the map to "My Places" and click the "Edit" button. Click on "Add a placemark" button and drag the placemarker to a desired location as simple as that. I urge you not to put the exact addressjust somewhere in the vicinity.
Lets try to stick to the default placemarker please because the others may be hard to see. Change the color to your preference. When placing a marker dialog window pops up. Put your forum screen name as title
Below are detailed directions (I apologize for my poor computer drawing skills ):
Step 0: Login into your google account.
Step 1: Follow the link to the map. The map will open and you can add it to "My Places" too bookmark the map. Click on "Edit" button.
Step 2: Click on "Add a placemark" button (Alternatively you can move/zoom in onto the desired region, "Right Click" where you want to place the marker and select "add a placemark" from drop down menu. If you are adding the marker this way skip step 3)
Step 3: Zoom in/out to find a desired location for the marker (this can be done prior to step 2 as well). When location is found place a marker by clicking on the map.
Step 4: Once you have clicked on the map to place the marker a dialog box will open. In the title enter your screen name. Add description below title if you want.
In the top right corner click on the "placemarker icon".
Step 5: A new box will open where you can select the shape and color of the marker.
Step 6: Once the marker type is selected. Click "OK" button. Click "Save" (grayed out in the picture) and "Done".
---------------------------------
If while placing your marker you have accidentally moved somebody else (their marker) to a different location, don't panic, notice that on top of the map a warning highlighted in yellow appears:
Click on Undo and the marker will be returned back.

LOL! I actually figured it out!
Scot,
1) Open the map and click Edit.
2) Zoom in onto your marker and click on it:
3) A dialog box will appear with the placemarker icon in the top right corner, Click on the icon.
4) Select the icon you want.
However, I have seen similar maps with bunch of different and customized placemarkers added and due to their shape and size they sometimes are really hard to see on the map, or they overshadow other markers. Lets try to use a common shape if you can please.
Thank you
P.S. Whoever added Placemarker 8 could you please edit it and add your screen name, or something else in the title?
Wow, it is early....
Pretty cool....

These are the steps I used:
Click the link to the map provided by gill_za above
Top right click 'Sign In'
Log into your Google acct
Click the 'Edit' Button (top left corner of the map)
Zoom into your area on the map
Right click on the map and select 'Add a placemark'
In the dialogue box, enter your TF username in the 'Title'
Enter any info you want in the 'Description' area
Click 'OK'
Click and hold on your placemark to move it around where you want it
Click 'Save' then 'Done'
Log out
