So I've been thinking...maybe it's just time to ditch the tanks and start up a grow shelf. Good idea? Again, major concern being transitioning everything to a new environment.

I was thinking something like this:

But then what should I do for lighting? I was thinking of continuing with t5's...

Begginers advice to CPs so dont take what I say serously... But i would suggest if im reading it right, get two shelves and put them side by side so you can get the 4' shop lights. Then you can either continue with t5s or switch them up to t8s. right now im using t8s and my plants seem to be doing quite well. Best of luck

In that case clamp lights it is! And about the ditching of the terrarium... I would say yes as long as your careful. Shelf looks good, and lighting can always be changed

You don't need a tank for any of the species you've listed above. Dormancy might be a problem with D. capillaris and P. primuliflora. None of the others need winter dormancy. The pygmy Drosera may or may not go dormant in the summer but all you have to do is cut back on the water.

Wire shelves like those are what most people use. They aren't very expensive, can be assembled without tools. They aren't so big that you need a truck to bring it home. They are adjustable, water resistant and it's easy to hang lights and fans. Personally I'd get one with more shelves but all I grow indoors are Drosera and Dionaea so I don't need much space between the tiers.

Yeah, I was actually wondering about something like this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classi...e_hg_ai_ps_t_1

Less space between where I could hang or zip tie the lights and where the plants would be. As of now there is only about 5-6" between the lights and plants. Problem is with the smaller shelves they are lower to the ground...

    I've gotten the 54" x 36" x 14" shelves from Lowes
    http://www.lowes.com/pd_62870-80752-...ductId=3067791

    and the 72" x 48" x 18"
    http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?...-80752-184874B

Most people the 72". Costco sells a 72" with six tiers and wheels for $10-20 more.

The 36" shelf is what I would want, that's about all the floor space I can allow. Thanks NaN! Probably will be hanging lights then.

Do you know how much weight each shelf supports? It would be nice to put a 10/15 gal aquarium (filled with water of course) on their as well.
