Gemmae

I've just harvested some gemmae, and was wondering how long I could safely keep them in a small ziploc before they are no longer viable.

Thanks.

Chris

I think in Tamilin's topic about pygmys and gemmae, I think he said that they are only good for about 2 months, but I'd wait till tamilin himself (The Pygmy drosera king) tells you.

Some gemmae may keep a month or more if kept moist and refridgerated. These are the flat gemmae. The rounder, fat gemmae do not fare as well. In all cases, viability drops off after a few weeks of regular storage in the fridge.

Friends in Australia have experimented with paraffin oil, and state gemmae immersed in this and kept near, but not at freezing, have sprouted nearly a year later.
