Peat moss and sand I find is the best mixture. I have not tried LFS due to their high moisture but would probably work. If you use 50/50 perlite and peat, then layer the top 1/2" with pure peat so the Gemmae can root easier.

I wouldn`t use sphagnum as it grows and will sufocate your pygmys. I learned that the hard way,and had to repot. I would use 50\50 or 25\75 peat\sand preferabley the sand being sand blasting sand,and the peat being washed. You can use perlite too if you want,but I don`t like perlite anymore.
