Drosera montana var tomentosa

Hello,

Here are pictures of my three Drosera montana var tomentosa. The plants are quite different.

I got this plant from Eberhard König. It is the biggest of my forms and has a hairy scape. It does not get as red as the following plant.

I got this plant with "Boutrim, Minas Gerais, Brazil" (thanks, you know who you are ;) ) as location data. It gets deep red and seems to have a hairy scape (it has not yet flowered for me). It is conspicously smaller than the plant above.

In contrast to the other plants, this one has a completely hairless scape. It is also smaller than the first plant and does not get as red as the second plant.

The three plants are all cultivated in the same conditions.

Thank you for sharing the pictures! Now I have to compare mine to yours. Mine are a year old. Do you know if or when I might expect them to flower?

They all look very good to me. Good growing Christian. Looks like you have a good diversity of genetics there. You will have to try some crosses.

Hi,

I have only grown the last one from seeds. I have sown them in 2003 and this year they flowered the first time. So it took about 2 years, although it has not gotten bigger since last year.

As i want to keep the plants pure, i will not cross most of them. Maybe i will do it, when i have the chance. Just to see the variability, that might result from such a cross.

Christian

Ah, two years. Guess I just have to wait!

Hello Christian!

Nice plants!! D.montana var.tomentosa (or just D.tomentosa as I prefer, ;) ) is very variable and you'll see that easily growing plants from different places side-by-side.

As for the location, the correct spelling is Botumirim, a small town in north-central Minas Gerais state. The plants grow on beautiful mountains next to this isolated town.

Any location data for the other plants?

Congrats,
Fernando Rivadavia

Hello Fernando,

Thanks for the correction of the location Data. I will go and relabel them soon ;)

Saddly i do not have location data for the other two plants. I might be able to find out the location of the first one. If i am successful i will let you know. It is a bit sad, that some growers do not care about these informations. For me it is more interesting to know where a plant comes from, than to know what species it belongs to.
