Welcome to the world of Nepenthes! Nice try on the identification, but it is almost certain to be the common hybrid N. x Ventrata (N. alata x N. ventricosa). Other than that its a great first timers plant and should prove easy and pleasing to grow!

They all do and for some reason they won't print new ones.

Does it say what nursery or producer it came from? If it was a overseas from a big produce, DeRoose, or Gublers it is definetly N. alata, also I can tell even as far away as the plant is in the picture is is 100% Ventrata.

It's true. My first nep I ordered from **********.com and it was supposed to be an N. alata. After showing Ben some pictures we determined that it was, in fact, N. x ventrata...

It happens quite often. But it still makes a nice plant regardless of the name.

I also just rescued a supposed N. alata from a local nursey today and I'm not 100% percent sure that it is a N. alata. How do you tell?

    N. alata is a very variable species. Usually they are cylindrical and drab, althought they can also be spotted or bulbous or big or small... you get the idea.

    N. ventricosa is has relatively short, squat pitchers and they are constrained around the middle, almost as if they have been corseted.

    N. Ventrata has elongated pitchers which are quite bulbous at the bottom (although not in the same manner as N. ventricosa) and narrow the closer you get to the peristome. It's a hybrid of the two plants above.

    Lol, here are good examples.

Actually I'm going to link you to Bob Ziemer's website for this because it is such a variable species that there is no "standard" plant. http://www.humboldt.edu/~rrz7001/Nepenthes.html
