Nepenthes Pitcher FREAKY!

Ok so i just got a new N. Raff and i wass looking at the plant since it was soooo cool, well... i was looking at one of the pitchers on the outside and it was 'dying' so i decided to look inside and see what things it had caught. Well to my GREAT suprise i found a second pitcher growing inside of it from the same leaf!!!. This is absolutely weird.

Have any of you ever heard of this happening before?

HEre are some pics of this freak show!

If you look the green part under the dead lid is the lid of the 'new pitcher, and those 2 red lines inside the pitcher under the 'new' lid are the fins of the new pitcher. This is weird :0o:

Hey sorry man I don't mean to be negative, but I really can't make out what is going on in that picture...it is too out of focus. Could you possibly take another one? ??? ???

All i can do for now is tell you than there is literaly a pitcher growing inside that outer pitcher you can see in the photo

can you retake the picture but not zoom in so close, maybe then it won't be as blurry.

So a pitcher is inflating inside of another pitcher? Normal.

Does your camera have a macro setting? If not, take the picture from a bit further out. I can't tell what I'm seeing either.

Lol yeah. It's not the most common thing, but it happens enough to not be alarmed at all.

I got a laugh out of that as well...haha

and while we are the topic of photography..

please please please please please please REsize photos before posting.

640 pixels wide, or 800 maximum, is perfect for posting in forum threads.

no one should ever post a full-size image straight from the camera..
because its a huge waster of storage space (in file size)
and it makes things much harder to see for your audience..
and it greatly annoys people on dial-up, because it takes days to download
your freakishly huge photo..

just re-size first..its easy.

And I hate scrolling over to read posts, and type responses...

xvart.

edit: and do you mean a tendril came down into the mouth of a pitcher and inflated? I would say that's just good aim.

No, I think if y'all read the post carefully you'll see bianchi says it's from the same leaf. Additionally, there appears to only be one tendril in the photo. I can't be sure because of the blurriness, but I believe that the new pitcher is nested inside the old one and actually attached to it, as in growing from between the old tendril and old pitcher and not part of a second leaf. Never heard of this before, but similar deformations happen in flowers often enough (S. lueco 'Tarnok's' double-petaled flowers, for example.) I'd say this is... very unusual.

Yes this does sound unusual... Usually double pitchers are rare, however they have their own tendril from the same leaf. I've never heard of one growing within the other from the same tendril.

BTW, I prefer large pictures (when they're in focus :p). This is the age of high speed internet connections and huge LCD screens. The pic is only 176 KB anyway. If it was straight out of the camera it could have been a few MBs. If you're still on a 15" CRT screen and AOL, it's time to upgrade (unless you have a laptop in which case you need to bump up the res).

EDIT: New pic please :).

I agree..
im running DSL and a 19" CRT.
I dont mind larger photos..

but all that is irrelevant in this case..
because that picture is STILL way too huge! ;)
for anyone..regardless of their connection speed or monitor size.

its still just common courtesy to resize all photos to 640 or 800 pixels wide maximum for discussion forums..there is no need for anything larger..640 or 800 are plenty big enough to show any and all detail you want to share..
its big enough for you, the poster, and its small enough for everyone viewing..

the photo at the top of this thread is 2,048 pixels wide..

notice how everything here, on page 2, fits nicely on the screen..
there is no horizontal scoll bar..now go back to page 1 and notice the difference..

here is a nice photo, 640 pixels wide:

Here is bianchi's photo from page 1.
cropped, resized and sharpened..
its still a bit hard to tell what it going on, because the original was so out of focus,
but maybe it will help:

I agree, for the most part. I just don't like having to use the horizontal scroll bar when reading the messages throughout the post. The picture resizes the entire thread to fit it, and then I have to keep scrolling left and right for every line. Big pictures are great, but I'd rather open them in a different tab and view them independently of the forum.

I still am having trouble seeing a whole other pitcher, but I can convince myself that I see one. Perhaps it's time to cut away the outer pitcher for a better investigation?

I see it you are looking down at the picher inside it is not an uninflated pitcher but one that has already developed you can see it's wings and the top of the lid if you look closely.
It is rather green.
