Heck. So when I thought I had all the possible ingredients for a mix, I wasn't even close. Coconut husk chips? Hmmm. Is that something I can get at a nursery?

Nurseries or some bigger hardware/garden supply stores. You can also order it online I bet, but you might have to order a lot...

Since I just have one nep, maybe I'll try my luck with not using anything other than LFS, peat, silica sand, and perlite. I'd have tons of coconut husk chips leftover otherwise.

Just try orchid bark. It's cheap and easy to find in small bags.

There are lots of alternative ingredients. No need to go crazy with buying alot of new stuff. You may find a simple mix of LFS and perlite about 1:1 works fine. I have never had very good results with peat mixes so I would skip that and the sand. Some people like peat based mixes though. The sand isn't necessary... it's heavy and nonporous and in a free draining Nep. mix will settle on the bottom of the pot.
Is that a Nepenthes in your pocket or you just happy to see me?

I got to this topic a bit late, but, I have a rather large DeRoose Ventrata that I have out in the full, direct sunlight for at least 6 hours each day. The leaves that were on the plant when I received it burned and turned a nasty red, wrinkled color. Now that it has acclimated, it is putting out huge leaves at an astronomic rate, growing much faster then my indoor nepenthes. The vine is absolutely going crazy. I'm just hoping for a flower soon, I hear the DeRoose clone of this plant is a female. I'm just going to be sad about bringing it inside for the brutal Cleveland winter. I really don't know where I'll have room to fit such a monster.
