Nepenthes robcantleyi (formerly known as Black Truncata)

Dex that argument on Pitcher Plants between EP and Borneo you linked to is great. I haven't read stuff like that since the orchid forums - although there no mods ever edited anything. It was all tooth & claw!

I know, right? That is easily the most heated and epic discussion about Nepenthes I have ever seen anywhere. I don't think the mods even really have stepped in on that one yet. It would be great to make a GIF or something displaying the two fighters in a boxing ring with little sub texts like: "look at the astonishing differences in morphology!" :mwahaha: and "It should be nothing but a cultivar at most!" :cuss:

lol Dex, im sure you could find someone to do that

For those of haven't been following the epic Royal truncata** thread over on the Nep forum, this morning Rob posted links to pics of all of his adult plants as well as pics of other adult plants and some shots of Pasian truncata & veitchii for comparison - truly amazing eye candy for anyone interested in these plants ... :0o:

I believe that this is the 1st time pics of all of his 6 plants have been shared...

** recently proposed as N. robcantleyi

Thanks Ron. I somehow missed that thread.

I second that, I haven't been following that thread since the last two months. What gorgeous photos, and what a lively conversation...

Thanks Ron! I've been waiting for those pictures since January.

Although Geoff Mansell recently said, again, that he wasn't going to post anymore, I'm sure he won't be able to contain himself now. Not that he'll ever be sated by any new evidence, anyway..

The larger of my two, from two days ago. It still has a lot of "coloring up" to do:

Back from school for the week. This one never ceases to impress me. It has favored the dad until now but the mom may be starting to show through now. I'll take a better pic when I have more time.

... and me as well. :0o:

I think your plant represents what many of us are hoping for. I haven't managed to see a non-deformed pitcher on mine since I repotted it over a year ago ... :-( . A second repotting a few months ago seems to have restored good leaf growth - I hope the pitchers follow along ...

Mine gets abused and is pushed to the end of a cheesey low quality T8 fixture.... but one day it will get the light it needs

It may be lacking color but does show form

Mine's chugging along, hopefully producing more of these dark pitchers:

Everyone's plants are looking great!

Healthy leaves are always a good sign! Should be just a matter of time. My experience with this plant is that it can take a while to get over shocks. I suspect I over fertilized a while back and it took months for pitchering to start back. After that it started putting out beauties and it has been doing so since.

Wow I cannot wait till my royal puts on some size!!! Fabulous guys!!

Mato,
Very nice coloration. How large are your pitchers? It'll be interesting to see if they maintain the folded-back peristome or if it starts to flare..... ???

I just received a second plant in a trade so now I can perform my anti-wonderful-Nepenthes growth tactics on it also ... :0o: (I think it sensed this & cursed at me when I took it out of the box). :-O

This is the largest so far, about 3.5" tall. :)

Wow Paul - that thing really colored up nicely since the last pic! If the pitcher is ~3.5", then the leaf it's on is ~1 inch? My latest leaf is 3-4". It would be nice to see an un-deformed pitcher grow up on it .... (probably too much to hope for ...)
