Anybody purchase from flytrapshop?

Chris_Himself

Nep'tard
I usually buy from all the BE distributors on the west coast, and I like the prices, size, and pots that flytrapshop offers and I love the "home grown" look of the plants. Does anybody have any pictures of the Nep's they send to your door? I have two long troughs of Sarrs outside so I'm good on those for years to come.

I wish they gave out samples... I order a couple hundred bucks of plants a year and experimenting with failed vendors has really cost me dearly this quarter already.

My sang never really looked presentable at all. I'm going to get in contact with Andrew soon. I really just want a functioning sanguinea, it looks so half hearted now but it's going to cost me dearly for shipping for just one plant. I dont think a Raff would work in my closet either...

My sanguinea took a good 6 months to look presentable, so don't give in and get another quite yet! Unless you want another one. ;)

Anyone with a green name has bought about $10 worth of stuff from Andy. Quality plants... my Sarracenia I got from him last year are flowering this year! :-O

You dont understand, it was stunted for a year and JUST started growing. I'm past being excited for it. My sarrs are going to be huge this year. They didn't flower for some reason and started sending up 5" pitchers shoots already. Probably gonna have a few 2 footers this season. That California sun does something special man.

I'm thinking of ordering some D. Filiformis to plant between the sarr's to prevent any aphids from coming in during the warmer months. Arizona's got some great weather for these guys so I think I'll shoot in an order within next month for some plants. What does your sang look like?

Aphids will eat your filiformis too. I think you should get one anyway!

Mine refused to pitcher (and grow) for a few months. It got frozen this winter and is now a hedge of basals outdoors.

lol, Andy sends out VERY healthy plants. I got a vft and a sanguinea from him. Both came in very healthy and my sanguinea is one of my favorite neps, and if you forget to water it, it won't so any stress. It has almost tripled in size now and its pitchers are usually very colorful.

I intend to place an order soon. The only problem is that I spent it all fixing the Fiat, and then blew even more at a plant show.

Keep stuff stocked up, Andrew, I'm lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce!
I want some of that Dente VFT stock, so I can have my own VFT tree!

I ordered a ventricosa and it came looking great and healthy with multiple pitchers. I tortured it with constantly changing light/humidity, and then it had a run in with some mites, so going on a year now, it is finally getting back on its feet. But at no fault of Andrew's!

I'm itching for a Sanguinea so bad. That one on the bottom looks weird, like a tree or something. I'll give you a call when the tax return comes in next week.

Yah, that one I've had around a while... I'd imagine it will put on a basal soon and hide some of that lol Some people really like that look, others not so much. It's a healthy plant either way :p I took a quick break, just about done packing stuff up still some work on the Neps and then get them all in their boxes...

Do you have any plants coming up soon on the site? Looking for a Truncata and one day one of the "Dragon" cultivars.

I recently got really shafted with plants sent to my house from the east coast with no heat packs in the middle of Feb (I was charged for them), no taped down soil, and some had a cup on them, some were wrapped in wet paper. I lost a Spectibilis (poor thing) and a Veitchii x Chaniana (stem broke cleanly) that way so I'm really glad to see the care you take in running your business!

Some people go for the "palm tree" look? I actually have no sense of taste with these plants so I just follow what other people buy. I'm actually really curious, how do you manage out there in Tucson? What are the growing facilities like? I look forward to doing business with you Andrew!

No new Neps coming up for the store. :( I come across some extra one of a kinds every now and then that I mention when people ask... The one I can think of right now is N. x edinensis but apparently a lot of people have this plants as that, but it is believed to not be. Either way, I like it. Actual plant: http://cpforums.org/gallery/d/32434-2/IMG_0695.JPG Parent plant: http://cpforums.org/gallery/d/30414-2/N_+edinensis+_4_.JPG

I admit to not even offering heat packs, but we never freeze here so you only need to worry about your own weather/making sure you can get the plant as soon as it is delivered. And I don't wait weeks to ship out orders so when you order you have a really good idea of when to expect your plants and can plan it just fine with your weather. Thinking back, I can only think of one complaint of a plant freezing.... And he had told me "Got my plant today and it is all mush, seems like it had froze." When I pulled up the delivery confirmation info, it had arrived in his mail box 3 days earlier... This was in the middle of winter in NY. As far as actual packing goes I think I have a pretty good method down so that things arrive safely.

Here is a topic on N. x 'Miranda' palm trees I had sold a while back :p http://www.terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115206

I grow in 2 greenhouses which are pretty much the same come summer (hot) but in winter one is for temperate plants and one is for tropical plants. Cooling and humidifying are the two hardest things to accomplish when the temps are up in the high 120s and humidity is in single digits or maybe teens.

Here is a tour of my greenhouse (back when I only had one) http://www.terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114131 I really need to redo this topic since I have two greenhouses now...
