Nepenthes treubiana - anyone growing it?

So I was watering my Nepenthes and discovered I had bought an N. treubiana at some time or other, does anyone else own this? So far the pitchers are quite unspectacular on a 4 - 6" diameter plant or so. I looked it up on CP Photo Finder and just about every pitcher pic is different.... Is this species that variable? How big does it get?

Any info, photos, links, etc you have would be appreciated.

I am growing it in Lowland conditions with N. rafflesiana BE 99, N. campanulata x thorelii, N. mirabilis and so on.

Can I slightly sidetrack and ask if you could maybe possibly offer up some pics of your N. campanulata x thorelii (or is it the other way around? Mine is...) so I could see some pics of others? I'm growing mine highland to borderline ultrahighland right now and it's pouting, but intermediate it does great.

I've thought about N. treubiana but it looked just a tad too...boring I'm going to go hunt down pics in CPP right now too

Seems to be happy in the lowland conditions. I recently moved it from a 10 gallon tank to a 20H tank and from a 6" pot to an 8" pot. I feed it crickets and give it the 1 - 2 times a month Grow More urea free orchid fertilizer.

Right now the N. treubiana pitchers are still very juvenile looking and green despite the plant diameter and being exposed to a blast of T5HO lighting for almost a year. I'm still trying to figure out what the plant is doing here, I don't remember buying it or why cos the pictures online aren't all that exciting. Someone must have had a good item description...

I would imagine Nepenthes treubiana looks it's best when mature as with most Nepenthes, I'm not exactly sure of the conditions N. treubiana likes, I've been meaning to buy one though, I love it's mature traps.... Any idea at all where it came from? No company name on the tag or anything?

Joel you can't post that!

Sure all Neps look better as adults but this guy seems to be making no effort just lounging around in it's youthful looks. Probably came from NY but I can't say for sure.


From what I see online it grows on cliffs overhanging rivers in western PNG with pitchers occasionally dipping to the water.

They will get pretty big. Related to N. sumatrana

The plant is about 9-10" leaf diameter and the pitcher is almost 2" I just would expect more interesting pitchers on a plant this big.

Hi Josh,

I've got two plants and they are growing in the same pot. One threw out pitchers just like your but the other seems to be "mature beyond its age".

Here are the pitchers of the "mature" plant from last September - they look almost the same now except that the peristome is much darker. Hope it turns out like this.

Yeah, the plants in this tank are making a mockery of my plan to "keep it small"!

I was just watering stuff and moving things before lights out and I noticed two basals started on the N. thorelii x campanulata.
