Stubborn 'Predator' rooted cutting...

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced any issues with getting a rooted cutting of Nepenthes 'Predator' to pitcher? I received the plant back in November 2010 and it STILL hasn't pitchered for me!! The plant continues to grow but no pitchers have developed. I grow it in highland conditions with plenty of light. I transplanted it into a larger pot (out of it's original 2" net pot) over a month ago in hopes that would help. Still NOTHING. :( It has also received a light fertilizer occasionally along with the rest of my Neps (which are all doing fine and happily pitchering). Any suggestions??? Thanks.

If its any consolation while my mother 'Predator' is pitchering like mad- a single cutting I took 2 years ago has yet to pitcher!

My predator cutting took a while to pitcher as well. About 8-12 months I think.

Maybe it's the fertilizer? A new cutting may see no reason to pitcher if it has enough nutrition. Just an idea though, never grown tough neps.

Thanks for the responses guys. It's good to know I'm not alone with 'Predator' issues. It's got a bark but no bite.:-(

@silenceisgod - You might be right. I haven't fertilized it a lot but I guess it's best to discontinue it for now.

So there is actually someone out there to get a predator cutting from?

Yeah they're available from time-to-time but they don't last long and are pricey. I found mine on eBay last year.

WOOHOO!!! It finally pitchered for me and it's a green form! Double win! I'll have to post a photo of it soon...

you lucky man! I am looking for the green form for myself as well. :) Can't wait to see the pics!

My predator cutting from 2010 settled in nicely and pitchered on the first leaf it produced after rooting. so ive had no problems. hows the humidity?

The Predator uppers are all green and rarely pitcher for me... the lowers have the colouration and pitcher practically every leaf.
If that cutting was of the upper vine, that would probably explain why it took so long to pitcher and that it's all green.

Heya quoque..I was wondering what coloration you were getting on your predator before it went into upper pitcher production?

You can see in the Tipitiwitchet website I have... look under Carnivorous Plants -> Nepenthes -> Predator

I am kinda curious now for what these rooted Predatoe cuttings are going for...

Try to vary the temperature and photoperiod a bit. If it is treated like a highlander, allow it to warm a bit; conversely, if treated as a lowlander or intermediate (as some do), cool it down. Futzing with the Tb has worked in my experience with Nepenthes x "Predator.'' Also, alternatively exposing it to bright light and shade or diffused light can be helpful . . .

Here it is! Whether it's an upper or lower I'm not sure?? At this point I'm just glad to have a pitcher to look at. :-D

Yeah that definitely looks like an upper pitcher to me.

I've never actually taken any cuttings before, but I have heard of the upper vine - upper pitcher sort of dilemma, where the plant will produce upper pitchers if the cutting is far up the vine. Typically upper pitchers can be more difficult to grow or produce, especially without any lower ones feeding the plant nutrients. That might explain why it took so long for yours to pitcher.

I've been hesitant to hack up a vine that I have simply because I would like to see an upper, and if I traded the cuttings I would feel jipped if someone else got an upper before me.

Nice pitcher though, no doubt!

That is certainly an upper, and a very nice one too!

Before long a basal will sprout and you'll have lowers too.
This is a Fast growing plant, you'll have a huge vine before you know it!

Yessir! Mine has popped a basal and started opening up a nice looking lower. :-D

Can't wait for this one to start hitting its' stride :)
