My many Nep hybrid attempts

lance

Class 5 Nepenthes hoarder
For those of you who don't know I have been trying to create some hybrids with the N. X aeneas [campotiana X maxima x ( X Isle De France)] pollen that I have and the available female flowers that are wandering around out there for pollination. This thread will be a constantly updated thread on how the attempts are coming along so... here's what I got so far...

Heres the male that made it all happen..

female redneck [(truncata x “thorelii”) x maxima] (currently hosting maturing seeds)(pollinated 10/01/11)

DSC01254.JPG

Pollen sent to peter D Amato polinated with N. Bicalarata x (x Rokko) picture pending (pollinated 10-15-11)

Pics of the redneck spike should be up soon.

If anyone has a flowering female that could spare some pods I would greatly appreciate it

The redneck is starting to make its best fall pitchers

The offspring are going to be interesting.

^ Cant wait to see the results!

The Male is putting out its first uppers. This should give an idea to the combination of the 2 (^) when the pitcher opens.

Pollen sent to peter D Amato has been pollinated with N. Bicalarata x (x Rokko).
Pics are coming soon.

I have finally gotten a picture of the Bical X Rokko's pitchers from Peter D. Amato.

mail

It should look interesting with the tricolored hood and the remants of the bicals fangs.

Update on Redneck female
The ovaries are growing which means the pollen has worked. Still, its gonna be a while before the seeds are ready.

Around christmas time the ovaries on both females will be near seeding

more updates to come...

Heres some pics of the N. bical X rokko flower stalk when I last visited on the 16th. Not much noticed yet, but Bical crosses have a tendancy to be slow at first.

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=Iphone11-2011081.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/Iphone11-2011081.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

A broader look... if this works it should make a TON of seeds!

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=Iphone11-2011082.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/Iphone11-2011082.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And on another note my S. alata has made seeds from pollen of S. X readii!! It has taken me years to reach this point with sarr hybrids! Hopefully the seedlings have enough color and vigor so I can name them something. Not a lot of seeds..but its better than nothing.

Updates!!

The N. X redneck X N. X Aeneas pollination attempt has failed. The only pollination success on the Redneck female flower was Redneck X Redneck (partly sterile) . Still, I will be getting the failed pods incase theres a few survivors

My new N. thorelli X campunalata female arrived with a flower stalk! Pollen is being sent from south Africa of...

N. X Briggisiana

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=images-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/images-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

N. X Rebecca soper (basically a really black maxima)

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=images-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/images-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

N. truncata x (talangensis x carunculata)/B]

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=images-2-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/images-2-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

a quick note that these aren't the exact pics of the plants but what I could find...

This should make some interesting crosses!

^Sure will...thanks!!

Updates

The N. X Aeneas pollen I sent to Peter D. Amato that pollinated N. Bical X Rokko has failed. Luckly, Peter is sending over some pollen for the female to try and see if this one will work out.

Updates!!

the female thorelli X campunalata flower has been abandoned for the plants survival...a new flowering N. spathulata has been brought in for the pollinations...its got a lot of flower stalks on it!!

Big scrambling viner that has 4 stalks in total!

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=DSC_0015-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/DSC_0015-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

theres the main opening stalk..some have been pollinated with N. lowii X ventricosa while I wait for the others to open...the green tip means they are receptive :D

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=DSC_0021-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/DSC_0021-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And this one looks like it was pollinated with something at the shop...I wonder what??

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=DSC_0018-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/DSC_0018-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

A big big BIG thanks to Tony for the plant...couldn't have done it without you (any idea what pollinated the stalk above??) !!

Now, some N. X predator pollen is being sent from Peter and Damon as the specimen is flowering right now.

If anyone has some pollen, please PM me and fast (50/50 seed split, theres more than enough flowers on it to fit). The flowers are just starting to open, so not a whole lot of time!

Hmm probably nothing? Yes there are various male Nepenthes here and there but I don't ever recall seeing any busy bees in the greenhouse. The stigmas will turn brown eventually even on unpollinated flowers. I guess if you wanted to leave the pods and see if they develop, it's up to you. You may want to let the plant put it's energy into the crosses you are making though.

I am still curious to see if you get anything from the N. Predator.. I have tried many N. Predator crosses with several different N. Predators (all male) and never had a single pod develop. Anyone else try and have any luck yet?

Tony, is it possible if you could do a quick check around the area where the plant was growing? From my perspective the ovaries look a lot bigger than the others and are producing the strange hairs described on mature pods in situ. N. X predator pollen has yet to arrive.

Sounds like you're having a rough time with this. I really hope something takes, especially with that truncata x (talangensis x carunculata).
