Nepenthes rafflesiana Appreciation Thread!

Nepenthes rafflesiana is my favorite species Nepenthes. It comes in every color: black, red, green, white, tricolor, spotted, or striped. It can be squat, tall, or flipping massive. It can have toothy or solid peristomes, tremendous wings, or flared tendrils. So any pictures you have of your unique forms, please post them! I’ll start it off with my three forms (a fourth is on its way).

N. rafflesiana 'Bruni Squat x (Kondo x Singapore Giant 6).' This pitcher is from Jeremiah, I intend to replace it with the one forming in my care tight now.

Here's a N. rafflesiana 'Squat x Alata.' This pitcher is from Tony, it's also working on its first pitcher in my care.

Here's a typical form that opened at Meadowview last year.

Mind if I share my collection? Hope it's ok. :)

:) Few of my collections. :)

Those are some of the nicest raffs I have ever seen! I love the second one, is it a black form of alata?

The lid on that second raff is gargantuan!

Would raffs die in 50F nights? I want one now... :p

can't say for certain since i never let mine get that cold but it would definitely suffer i would imagine if it didn't die right away. i am waiting on a new pitcher to inflate but I have a N.baramensis and that thing is a genetic freak compared to the rest of my nepenthes.

Unfortunately, I don't think they'll do very well Pine. I would give it down to 60-65, but even that would be the very bottom of its range. Maybe a windowsill inside would be better than your greenhouse. They don't need a ton of humidity.

Nor do they need a ton of light. N. raft is probably one of the easiest species to grow. They can survive brief spells close to freezing, but I don't recommend trying it regularly. It'll definitely grow at regular home temperatures.

^ yep and if you give it lowland conditions it will grow HUGE fast. lol.

That clone is fantastic, love the colors and teeth. Sign me up for a cutting :D

What temps are the minimum for raffs?

  • #18
any borneo exotics 88 clone out there?

That's one of the many cuttings, which all seem to have decided to pitcher at the same time. I'll be back over there tomorrow, so I'll talk to Phil about the pricing on them.

i wouldn't ship cuttings this late in the year... wait til spring, but we've had a warm snap here recently so maybe they'd be ok ???
