Nepenthes Hamata Selected clone- worth it?

Hey Guys. I need some input.
Do you think that recent stock of Nepenthes Hamata- selected clone is worth investing Two hundred and Thirty dollars in? It looks SO nice, but i want to know if its worth spending my christmas budget on. Anyone else get it? what is your experience with the clone if so? PICS WELCOME!!!- to determine size upon receiving the plant if i do.

I would say yes only if you are absolutely certain that you have the correct set up to take care of it and you understand that it is $230, which is a lot of money to spend on a single plant.

My two cents? Well, from spending at least $10,000 on saltwater tanks in just four years, having to have multiple $200 anemones, designer fish, rare corals... I would say that there is too much peer pressure from the media saying only the cool growers have hamata. You have to have a toothy nep, you have to have a nep like jamban or dubia, ect. But I'm like BS! $278.75 for a 2" PLANT. You just spent $300 on a freaking seedling! I found a hamata like 3" at a plant show for $70 and passed it up because it was a rip off. I won't even spend $70 on a massive nep in a hanging basket. When I have spent over $50 on a nep, I regret it. I don't like my hamata x platychila that much and it doesn't like me... I had to have it because it was a "cool" nep but it isn't really that special IMHO.

So my next point is, if you like it, you should get it. If you don't like it or you like something better, don't get it! I had to have a pair of ORA Grade 'A' Picasso Clownfish... Like $100 each, and they didn't even send the right ones, but that's another story. Wanting them felt so good and I would dream about them, literally... I had dreams about them weekly, I wanted them so bad. Then I got them and I liked my regular orange and white clownfish better that I paid $15 and were close to mating. You may want one, but you may not like it that much when you get it. Beauty is in the eyes of a beholder. To be completely 100% honest, I would pick a nice ventricosa over hamata or attenboroughii any day. The only reason people like hamta and attenboroughii is because they're rare and expensive, or at least they used to be super rare. Now everyone has attenboroughii seeds... I can name like five people off the top of my head that have seeds, some that have germinated seeds! The only reason hamata is exclusive is because it is expensive since nobody can afford it... I give you, it is very cool with the "teeth" and all and it is very nice, much nicer than like sanguinea and others that are boring... Not worth $300 for a tiny plant though.

I personally wouldn't buy it, but I think you get my point so I'll stop ranting. I have been called retarded and other names in the chatbox because of my opinions on this and I'm sure people will harass me about it until I die... But seriously, it is like going into Nieman Marcus and buying a $200 candle because it is from Nieman Marcus. My friend went into there are actually found a $200 candle, an $800 picture frame and $4000 coats that were nothing special. The only reason people shop there is because they think the stuff is amazing and since it is so expensive, everybody assumes if you have it you are amazing. But would you recognize Nieman Marcus clothing if you walked by a man on the street? Same with neps, if your friends saw your collection and you told them, "Hey, that plant is called a hamata! I paid $300 for it!" they will be like "You're stupid goodbye."

Thats some inspiring stuff pineapple. alright i am now seriously considering what i actually wanted was something like you said- attenbourghii or edwardsiana or klossi when it is released next year. I guess the only reason i was considering the hamata is because christmas is almost here and almost EVERYTHING is off the shelf (all rare nepenthes, at least). I guess i can wait a little longer then!! GOSH i wish there was still an attenbourghii or edwardsiana still for sale.
