Nepenthes hamata #1 & #2

My first hamata is changing producing less curvy, larger and longer leaves. I had some trouble with it producing dud pitchers, proto-tendrils, at the end of the leaves that didn't extend and the tiny pitchers would turn brown. I traced it to lack of water, I guess I was over obsessing about doing something wrong. The clue was the greenery on the surface was developing brown patches so I paid closer attention by picking it up for a weight check more often.

NUMBER 2
My second hamata has slowed way down and just produced it's first dud pitcher. Everything is right so maybe it is just taking a break.

Very nice plants, specially the first! :)

Thanks, I'm just happy they are still alive. :banana2:

my hamata is doing the same thing, aborting the pitchers prior to inflation. But mine's not from lack of water..
Was hoping you had more info than that on the problem.

I think it might be possible that if a plant has several pitchers and is well fed it might stop producing or maybe if it is being fed with fertilizer doesn't need the pitchers. Like you I was hoping some of the long timers here would have more information. I also overnight them in an unheated room so they are getting a reasonable facsimile of their native conditions. Maybe the reason for dud pitchers is unknown. Post pictures of yours along with a description of conditions so we can see the general appearance and compare, you can post them on Facebook and then right click the picture and use the properties link to post here.

What is the humidity like??

You say you are moving the plants at night.

Remember nepenthes don't like change. Some more than others. Sumantrana comes to mind as being a picky on. I hear it sulks from just moving its pot. Any who. Neps dislike humidity fluxing in rapid swings. They don't like rapid temp changes either. Everything has to be don't gradually. Hamata is one of those plants that can get by with nontemo drop really. You get a slight drip when the lights go out. Many people have acclimated their plants to household temps and humidity, but again its not rapid swings its a gradual acclimation. I think that may be the problem or at least part of it. Some plants dont mind change yet some do. Part of the game.
