Humidity

What humidity devices are on the market? I've heard of humidity trays, are they helpful? I'm talking for the house/ windowsill.

There is a super sonic humidifier that fires supersonic waves at the water, and it vibrates all the particles apart. This evaporates water very fast, so you get lots of humidity...

Close Parasuco but no cigar.

It is an Ultrasonic Humidifier which I own and they work GREAT! I have one for my N.Rajah terrarium and to add humidity to other pots and palnts as well as my home. Here's is a picture of it in action.

Everyone can see the mist right? It is hard to get a picture of it.

yea i can see it, pretty cooll, but how do u get it inside ur tank??

i saw a pic before that u showed me and it looked awsome, looked like it was by a waterfall with all the mist goin off to those neps

How much are they?

I take the pipe and simply place the opening in the mouth of the tank. AT nihgt I place the SMALLER opening in the mouth of the tank as if the larger end was placed there the water would build up overnight and my Rajah would be an aquatic Nepenthes.

Here are a few pictures.

Here is the large opening angled inot the tank mouth.

Here's the smaller opening that is used at night to lessen water output. But it puts out enough water to condense alot on the N.Rajah.

Here is the Rajah with the fan on which lessens the visablity of the mist because it is sucked into the fan and it makes the mist turn into water and spray it all over the tank.

Fan off more mist.

Nathaniel, Ultrasonic Humidifiers run around 30-40 dollars each. It also depends on quality, brand and features of it. Mine is a KAZ high quality as KAZ is a specialist company in humidifying and it has a 2 speed fan feature. The water tank has a 1/2 gallon capacity. Very nice addition to your growing supplies for Nepenthes if you care to spend a few extra dollars. *ALSO A NOTE* Use ONLY REVERSE OSMOSIS OR DISTILLED WATER IN ULTRASONIC HUMIDIFIERS OR ELSE MINERALS WILL BUILD UP FROM ANY OHTER WATER AND RUIN YOUR ULTRASONIC HUMIDIFER.

#### thats nice, when i make my highaldns tank i wanna buy one of those =D

Where can you get large transparent bags? I can't seem to find any.

I woulda bought one of them you gave the website inof about but the ultrasonic pads give out frequently don't they? If they don't and last a generous amount of time, then I'll get one after I get some extra money.

the pads in yours, and the misters are exactly the same. The are not inexhaustible resources, and designed to be replaceable. I actually have the same model of humidifier as you NG, but I use it in my bedroom during the winter when the heater dries the air out so much that my allergies launch ww3 on my nose.

I have tested, and the pads are interchangeable. The ones in yours will wear out eventually, as will the one in mine, you just have to go buy yourself a litte baggie of replacements, and if I remember, they really are not all that expensive.

Mine has been running for over a year btw.

Well I may buy myself one of those little things.,

I like it and I think I would be more efficent as I can cover the entire moss, plants, soil with the mist overnight. Thanks for the website Ram! Also HOW do the Ultrasonic pads change? Ya gotta cut wires off of the original or do you just take the base apart find the pad and is it a snap and go asembly?

the base has a water tight gasket, you just unscrew the gasket with a key that is provided with the kit, and pop out the old, put in the new, tighten back down and tada.

No, I mean hoe do you change the Ultrasonic pad that is in MY Ultrasonic humidifier? You siad they were interchangable,Universal, etc. You have the same blue KAZ as me right? and you said that you can change the pads in them too, well how?

oh!

sorry.

Well, mine is a sunbeam, but I find that it is usually the same model sold under several different brands, I got mine from walgreens.

On mine I just removed the canister, then there is a white tray under that, so I take that out, and then the humidifier is actually sitting down there. It's a little silver disk.

At this point I can't remember if there was a screw or not... I think there might have been a couple... can't remember...

heck... now that I am thinking about it, it might have been more of a project than that. I think I might have had to take the whole thing apart... definately easier to mess with the other little one.

I did take my big one apart once... but that was because I uh, got irresponsible one very late evening. Let's just say this... when it's late and you wake up and realize that your humidifier is out of water, so you stumble into the kitchen and grab the first jug you find... be careful. Tea can be slightly irritating to the eyes and nose when atomized, but heck, that might have cme from the fact our water is so hard you have to chew it before swallowing. ( I can't remember where i heard that phrase but I love it! So apt.) (San Antonio water you can SEE the solids at the bottom of a glass if you let it sit for an hour.)

I use a Vicks Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier model V5100 and it is about the same as the KAZ but it will hold 2 gallons of water instead of just 1/2 gallon.

It has the same output device as the KAZ but what I did (on both my humidifiers of the same brand/model) is cut a hole in a deli or cool whip lid to fit a small clear vynil hose (1/2" to 1" diameter) and glue with aquarium silicone. then I glue the deli lid over the opening on the humifier output. then put the open end in your tank. Below is a photo of how I've attached the hose to the humidifier-the duct tape is no longer on this was just to hold it in place while the silicone set.

Jeez Ram! That was a brilliant thing to do!
smile.gif
But I know how you feel, I don't think I would like to come to get a drink of "water" at night again when the "water" was actually PURE lemon juice! My father had been doing some of his fruit juice concoctions before I went to sleep and he left the jug of lemon juice in there, same color as the water jug and I didn't seem to notice unitl i got that big citric acid blast at 2 in the morning. Heh, I NOW look before i drink.
smile.gif
So Ram, do you think buying one of those humidifiers of of that site is a good purchase? Thanks!

I do think it is a good deal, I know phil was looking into getting some at one point, I don't know what happened off that though...

I think they are great deals, though stay away from the ones with the hallogen bulb unless your looking to add heat to the tank.

OK. think I will get 2 but not sure yet. Can you buy 1 unit with 2 output holes for plugging in 2 ultrasonic pads? I looked on the website but didn't eally see anything. Thanks.
