N. villosa

I've been growing N. villosa for some time now, and
thought some of you might enjoy seeing a photo of my plant's
most recent pitcher. I captured the attached image about an
hour ago. The pitcher shown is about 9 cm tall. The image
is large, so for those with only a 56K modem, please be patient!

I truly want to attempt the n. villosa because of it's beauty. Your picture is great. I think it is time to try. The shelter is ready and I have been able to keep the temperture regulated.

Thanks for the incentive. Any advice is appreciated.

Rick

Congratulations!!! You have done a remarkable job with this difficult and slow-growing plant. What a beauty! Keep it up.

What conditions are you keeping the plant in?

Thanks, gentlemen!

Here is a brief summary of the conditions under which this plant
is cultivated:

Temp: Approx. 3 to 20 C.
Humidity: 70% to 90%.
Photoperiod: 14 hours/day.
Illumination: 2 40W household fluorescent lamps.
Compost: 1:1:1 mix of peat, hort. charcoal, and fine orchid bark.
Watering: Water compost through every two days, with water
purified via reverse osmosis.
Feeding: Plant is fed with crickets every time a new pitcher
opens.

Fantastic photos Jeff! Your new camera does a great job capturing your amazing plants. What size is your N. villosa currently? I am hoping to see a bit more mature shaped pitchers by next Spring on my big plant which is 15cm in diameter.

Hi Tony,

Currently, this plant is a bit over 20 cm in diameter.
Yes, the new camera is quite helpful!

Great plant Jeff

How long have you been growing it and how big was it when you got it? My plant was less than a quarter of an inch across and had no green in it! The growth was almost transparent or white! Now its about 8 inches across, has two growing points and is green

Every leaf produces a pitcher, but still small- But I am a patient man

Jeff,
Fantastic as usual.
I have an odd question that I hope is not taken the wrong way. I have seen a lot of your plants and don't remember seeing so many volunteers in a pot(are those Utrics?). Is the colder temps you grow this at, optimum for something else like that to pop up(ie do other plants in that freezer have those), or is it just a freak occurance? Actually, I think they make the whole package look more alien and cool looking.

Regards,

Joe

Well, I went down the subjects and saw:

1) Jeff's other pics and

2) the pods are from some kind of moss, aren't they?

I guess I was just not observant enough. My bad.

I don't remember exactly how long I've had it; it's been a number
of years now. When I received it, the plant was less than
a centimeter in diameter.

Sorry to hear that you're ill, and hope that you are better soon!

Actually, what you are seeing are, I believe, the fruiting bodies
of some of the moss that has grown out from the peat moss I
use as a component of my compost.
