I've noticed that N. inermis' pitchers can hold more prey than they look like they can. I'd always been very careful about not over-feeding this one. However, as an experiment I've been feeding one of the pitchers only with adult sized crickets, after 3 feedings (over 6-8 weeks) so far still good and unrotted!
Josh, I know what you mean, the older pitcher on the N. inermis is still good looking besides a few spots of aging but is not showing any decline suprizingly with the fact it is holding 1 small hornet, a mealybug beetle and 3 mealy worms. It's noted that water seems to aliviate pitcher life span which seems to be true as mine get's misted overhead multiple times each day.
Ah you guys are always late to see the pics! Pat look when the topic is new! lol
Trent, it's on a misting cycler. I';ve had to decrease misting due to me limited water supply....I may need to order a larger capacity RO membrane......I'm very worried I'll run out, I've just filled the 32 gallon resevoir to the top and it's almost gone in 2 days.....And I added water to it every day...I just can't figure it out. This spring, no matter what it costs, insulated water piping, so it won't freeze in the winter (-30F here last night) and I'll have endless water.
