nepenthes gracilis

Nepenthes Specialist
Pat inspired me to get my butt uploading these pictures , plus I had to wait for the plants to do something. ;) Enjoy!

bigbical.sized.jpg

largest N. bicalcarata pitcher I've seen before, its measuring 6inches tall 4 inches wide.

merr.sized.jpg

The touchy plant and seldomely seen with pitchers, N. merrilliana.

Nampgiantxmirabilis.sized.jpg

A nice natural hybrid between what appears to be N. ampullaria 'red giant' x a form of N. mirabilis is what Tony and I think. It was SUPPOSED to be N. amp "giant red" but it happened to be a misfit outta Tony's stock he ordered hehe.

raffsg.sized.jpg

The lovely N. rafflesiana "Singapore Giant" one of my favorites! ;)

1aristol.sized.jpg

N. aristolochioides

1carunculata.sized.jpg

N. carunculata/bongso

1clipeata.sized.jpg

N. clipeata "G. kelam" the real deal

1jf.sized.jpg

The lovely N. x Judith Finn

1diatas.sized.jpg

Last but certainly NOT least, one of my pride and joys, N. diatas "meadow form" seed grown plant.

Nice pictures as always, Dustin.

Thanks for the kind words! Here are a few more I took today...

1aristo.sized.jpg

N. aristolochioides - newest fully colored up pitcher...its around 4cm tall.

1lowii.sized.jpg

Brand new N. lowii "Mt. Kinabalu" pitcher around 6cm tall, keep in mind it might be a bit taller as you can see it's JUST opening.

1trun.sized.jpg

N. truncata basal rossette just beginning.

2trun.sized.jpg

N. truncata plant notice the flower spike and new leaf coming up.

nice! could you take some updated pics of your monster miranda? i want to know what mine will look like when it gets as big as yours
wow.gif

Spec, mine isn't much to look at, it is going to pitcher soon, but yes it has got very large and leafy. Within a few weeks the pitcher should be open...maybe a few days even. But if you want a pic of the plant still just ask, all your going to see is a big hanging pot of a pitcherless Nepenthes.

Uh...NO.
smile.gif
Even if I had another specimen I would only trade it off for a Nepenthes equally as rare and if the receiver could properly care for it long term. This species is very rare and very touchy so it should only be in a collection if the person can care for it and ensure success. Thats one of my biggest pet peeves, only get the plants you can care for properly. You may admire the plant and love it to death but don't have the proper expierence or setup for it. Sorta like, I like N. villosa, but I live in Arizona and put in on your windowsill....it ain't gonna work!

Aw, nepenthes gracilis, I liked the shorter response better!
tounge.gif

Similarly, you'd have to pry my N. aristolochioides from my cold dead hands! Not only is it rare, hard to grow, and extraordinarily cool looking, it cost a lot!!

Well Max, can't be too harsh now.

All Kirk did was ask a question, but I mean seriously who the heck would trade an N. aristolochioides off? Uness of course you had 10 extras!

Hey Nep G,

Might sound crazy, but I'm working on growing a somewhat rare Nepenthes from seed, and then giving away, trading, and selling for the cost of shipping. But, by they time they grow out, they won't be rare anymore, lol.

"WHOA, LOOK AT THAT NEPENTHES EATING A BIRD!" *Points out window, and while max is gazing out the window, spec snatches the aristolochioides and runs as fast as he can and hops into max's car and drives off*

I am interested on what he wanted to trade you for a nice specimen of N. aristolchiodes.

Hey Nep G,

I'd like to see your N.mira if you have time.

Thanks,

Dustin, that aritolochioides is great, indeed! You're doing great things with it! 4cm? Nice! I think my largest is about 3cm... There's another one swelling, though, so maybe I can give you a run for your money...
tounge.gif

I see that you say your merriliana is touchy....I haven't had any trouble with mine, and it pitchers readily. I'm curious....what kind of set up do you have yours in? Mine is HOT and HUMID...I'm talking steam room. It's potted in a deep pot (cut off two liter bottle...which I'm going to have to change...roots coming out the bottom already. And the darn thing has only a 5 or 6 inch diamter), medium is 2:1:1 LFS:pete:eek:rchid mix (or there about). Also, I don't water it too often, but I certainly never let it dry out completely.

Hey guys,

Joe, I dunno 100 N. ventricosa? lol!

Pat, surely.

Dave, ok

lol

As for the N. merrilliana, I do find it to be an easy plant also but it took a LONG time for me to figure out what it wanted...and it is bright lights, almost 100% humidity and darn hot temperatures! Also, a deep pot is a MUST, this species seems to have an almost "tap root" like root habit and mass. Mine is doing very well in the 1gal. nursury pot, the red form of N. merrilliana I also have is also very pretty adn doing nicely too.

And of course, more pics!

Thanks!
How big is the N.mira pitcher, and how long are the leaves? And how tall is the plant?
