Jeff, the hybrid vigour issue you raised is something I've been pondering myself. I'm not sure how much difference there would be, the equivalent example would be crosses of different veitchii variants. I have seen various intra-species of veitchii, and they don't seem much more vigorous than the parent varieties.

This is not what it looks like Chesera. My Miranda is not cheating on your Emmarene!
I assume one male produces more than enough pollen for several females right?

Just a quick update:

Flowers are open now. I've begun pollenation, and
will try to post a picture of the plant showing
flowers soon. If anyone has any fresh N. lowii
pollen, now's the time to speak up!

Since an image of the flowering plant was requested some time
ago, I've taken a couple of images. The first shows the entire
plant, and unfortunately, the depth of field is pretty poor so the
inflorescence is out of focus.

The second image is a close-up shot of the flowers. As one can
see, the pedicels are very short. The resulting proximity of the
flowers makes it difficult to pollenate them.... Also, note the
appearance of small structures on the sepals, near the flowers
proper.

As of the present time, I have applied pollen of the following
species: lowii, aristolochioides, hamata, truncata, boschiana.
In particular, I am hopeful that my lowii pollen is still viable,
for it is from the G. Trusmadi variety of N. lowii, while the
female is from G. Mulu.

As an aside, I should mention that the smell of N. lowii flowers
is, in my experience, somewhat different from the scent of
other species, both male and female. Usually, most nep flowers
remind me of some very stiff gym socks. However, N. lowii
flowers are much less offensive. In fact, they are vaguely
redolent of spices, having an odd pepperly smell, at least to
my nose, and are quite unique in this regard.
