N. ventricosa in spike.

So I keep a N. ventricosa at my brother's house temporarily while my house gets finished. I likes it there, where it lives in the same pot as a huge N. hirsuta x veitchii. I went to water it today (after forgetting for a week), and found it in flower! Here are two pics, I assume this is a male? I don't have much experience with them flowering, so could anyone confirm this?

Also, if it's a pollen producer, is there a want out there for red N. ventricosa pollen? Ventricosa makes good hybrids! This one grew like crazy right from its humble beginnings in an OSH hardware store.

Yep, looks like a male - they have round buds whereas females have pointier ones.

Bye for now Julian

I would bet male as well. This reminds me of somthing. I was always very confident about a plants sex at the stage in your pictures untill our biggest bicalc bloomed. I would have bet money it was going to be a male becuase of the nice round buds. It opened and ended up being female. Bicalc has an X-shaped stigma and I wonder if this makes the buds look more round then some other species female flower buds...

Anyway, nice flower spike!

Steve
