U. calycifida problem.. Help?

Brie

Sarracenia freak
So I was taking some snazzy new macro photos today and decided to shoot my utrics since they dont get very much love from the camera usually.. I noticed on my calycifida, with my naked eye, that there was some wierd black coloration on the flower stalks.. Then I looked at the the photos and was like wow.. thats bad.. It seems to be killing off the flowers before they get a chance to bloom as well.. And its a semi new occurance.. Seems to be getting worse as the flower stalk gets older/taller.. Any ideas? Am I keeping them too wet? The plant is in live moss, kept in pretty deep water.. couple inches up the shallow pot..

So the flowers aren't getting a chance to open? I know my flowers only last like one or two at a time and they seem rather healthy. Also, the stalks just keep growing and growing to over a foot long. I don't notice any blackness on my stalks so maybe it is a pathogen of some kind, but the spacing between your flowers appears to be much shorter whereas mine are further apart. This could mean yours are maybe getting more light, the blackness being an indication of that? Possibly too much light?

Is the blackness occurring all the way up the stalk or just at the top?

Unfortunately, I don't have any input. But that's a great pic. :awesome:

I really hope my U. calycifida comes back from the roots, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Possibly the prettiest flower of the weedy ones.

It almost looks like it's getting sun burned. How far away is it from the lights and what kind of lights are you using ? I wish I could see the details of the black patches a little better...

seems like low humidity/high heat damage to me. then again, looks like some sort of fungus too.
how do the spots spread? from top to bottom, or bottom to top?

if top to bottom, it's something that has to do with the conditions of the air- humidity or temps
if bottom to top, it has something to do with the media state- temps, moisture, etc.

or it could be natural...you said it only hits the older stalks, maybe that's just how the stalk terminates itself...

Its happening from the bottom up.. I was wondering if maybe it was that I was keeping it too wet/water too deep.. Its kept pretty saturated, was sitting in the water tray along with my dews and is in a shallower pot.. Humidity on the shelf is usually consistent around 45-50%.

I was thinking it was probably something fungal as well.. Would you happen to know if Sulfur spray will kill utrics?

I dont think its an old age thing, but could be I suppose... So far its effecting 3 out of the 5 stalks..

I grow u.calycifida in a terra at 80% rh with an genlisea aurea. I do not use standing water, i water them 2 times a week.

Im not a utri fan but this specie have superb green purple leaves!

I've seen this before with mine.
It's either too much heat, too much light, or both.
This species seems to do what utrics do best with cool (near HL) conditions and low light.
I grow mine in a covered 50 gal. tank under a table. Started with one small plug and the tank is now covered corner to corner.

Mass: yep! 16-17C at night is a must.
