Traps Dying...

Hey all. It seems that my some of the traps on my vft are curling up an dying. I have no idea as to why, they seem to look very healthy one day, and the next day it starts to curl inwards, and after that, they just start dying off. I have my common in a 5 gallon tank lit by a equivalent 100 watt compact flourescent bulb about 4-5 inches away from the plant. I know its not poor air circulation because the top is not covered. The plant is on top of a small container containing about an inch of water. Also, there's alot of new traplings starting to grow out the center. Is the traps dying off normal?? Or am i just worrying too much? - I can't help but worry. Any more information that anybody needs as to help me identify the problem please ask. I have tried to be as informative as i can be. I will try and takes pics but it will be a long while due to the battery of my camera needs to be charged. Thx.

Traps dying off is normal, but try putting it on a windowsill.

Artificial light and an enclosed space isn't ideal for non-tropical plants - it might perk up in natural light.

Yes, as Alexis said, traps periodically dying is normal. The plant is healthy as long as you are seeing new healthy growth from the center of the plant.

When a trap is old, curls back, and is no longer functioning it will usually darken up just a bit, but the leaf will usually remain alive and green for a couple more days or even weeks. Do not clip it off; it will still be photosynthesizing which will aid the plant in growing new leaves and traps. Once it becomes black, clip it off to avoid fungus/bacterial growth/etc.

Good luck!

YESSS!!! Im so relieved lol. Thanx Guys!!!

Have you ever seen any plant that didn't have leaves that die?

^^^ true, but they all started to die at once so it made me think i had a problem. I wanted to nip it at the butt

Wait, they are ALL dying at once?? >That may be a problem. Can you post a picture?

Not all traps are dying- there were only a couple that died at once which made me think i had a problem. Here are some pics (although most of the dead traps are already clipped off)
