Very nice and healthy looking plants, just in time for the growing season!

Good find. Get those plants outside and into the sun!

very nice, I see you couldnt resist and fed them already

WOw....real nice plants there. congrats. :D

very awesome plants - that moss looks a bit suspicious though - i would make sure its the right kind!

Yes very nice looking plants. I agree time to get them outside and watch that S Purpurea turn red.

I dont think there is anything to worry about the moss. Moss like that normally grows in peat when there is enough moisture. I remember reading that if moss can grow like that in a vFT pot..that means its like good ideal conditions for the plant. :)

np. :D Some ppl actually hate moss in the pot..I like it as it gives an additional appeal to the entire pot. :D

haha yeah, i also think it makes it look nicer

I was wondering, does it matter if the VFT is in a clay or plastic pot cause i remember reading that plastic pots were better.

Generally plastic pots are considered best for most CPs. Clay pots can absorb minerals disolved in the water and then release them back into the peat when they are older. Or you can use a clay pot that has been sealed or glazed so that water can't soak into it's inner surface.

I agree with the previous posts. Lucky you!

yeah man! I would probably say dump the clay pots and go with plastic ones. HOWEVER, if you just repotted the plant, then:

1) Wait a while...let the plant grow in whatever it is in... just be careful and only water with distilled or Reverse osmosis water

OR

2) take the ENTIRE thing - the pot...be careful to lift up the entire mass of soil + plant form the pot and tuck it in the newer plastic pot.

In the worst case scenario, you can atleast leave it there for a while... I don't think the slime + salt buildup happens too fast..so I think u may have a couple of months to allow the plants settle before doing anything.

Its up to u though. I have done successive repottings without too much problem. However, if you are just starting off...I wouldn't encourage it.

The store owner told me they use peat moss for their flytraps and other carnivorous plants.... So i guess that moss in my picture is fine.. He also told me to water them only once a week!!! BS . i water them daily:p

Now about the Purpurea .. after i water it the little ballons filled up with water. Is that ok? How does this plan feed? I guess an insect get trapped in the "baloons" but mine are filled up with water:p

peat moss is the substrate in the pot. The green live moss on the top is porbably like common sheet moss or polytrica or something. Its basically a species that can live in peat bogs.

Watering daily is not required. I water my flytraps once in like 3 days or so. HOWEVER, the pot you have is smaller than mine...i.e., more not too much moisture holding...maybe requiring a lot more frequent watering. However, do it this way:

set that in a dish and top water the plant. Take care to water AROUND the plant and not on the traps or they will trigger.

Then water till u see the water coming out of the drainage holes and into the dish below.

Basically don't water till the dish dries out and the medium looks a bit on the dry side.

Take care that overwatering can cause root rot as well. So its always better to allow drying before re-watering.

will i need to replant it? The pot does look small to me for such a big plant

the sarr I am not sure? maybe...maybe not...perhaps the other gents here can oblige. :p

the VFT, I think is fine. They can grow in real squeeze situations. Let it grow for a while. Let it get used to you. You just got it. After dormancy and at spring next year, depending on how well its doing, you can then repot it. :)

Sarracenia don't suffer from moderate root crowding so it would be ok to leave it that pot for now. The best time to repot is late winter-early spring just before or as they come out of dormancy but can be repotted any time really.
