    rotten egdes

while repotting my new VFT, i cut off two rotten leaves. now in its new pot, i noticed the edges of one petiole are curled underneath the rest. i lifted the leaf and saw the edges had turned black and mushy. the trap and rest of petiole look great. should i just go ahead and remove the whole leaf now? could this rot spread to other parts of the plant if i dont?

Are you sure it's actually rot and not dead tissue? Usually old, mature leaves will get black spots on their petioles' edges, which show that the leaf and petiole are on their way out. These spots will get progressively larger until the entire thing turns black and dies.

Remember anything that is not brown or black can still potentially photosynthesize.
